Frequently Asked Questions about FNT Command

/ Author: Bernd Pratschke

FNT Command is a leading software solution for managing IT infrastructures and telecommunications networks. Whether you are new to FNT Command or already have experience with it, questions can arise at any time. In this article, we answer the most common ones to help you unlock the full potential of the software.

What can FNT Command document?

With FNT Command, you can document a wide range of IT and network resources, including:

  • IT assets such as servers, switches, and storage solutions.
  • Network infrastructures, including cabling and connections.
  • Data center resources such as racks, power, and cooling systems.
  • Service and application documentation to support ITIL processes.

How flexible is FNT Command in terms of customization?

One of the biggest advantages of FNT Command is its flexibility:

  • Configuration instead of customization: Functions and data models can be adapted without programming.
  • Integration with third-party systems: Open for connections to existing systems, such as monitoring and ticketing tools.
  • Automation capabilities: Facilitates workflows through automated processes.

Does the FNT Command platform include its own API interface?

FNT Command has a powerful REST API that enables seamless integration with external applications and systems. The API provides access to various modules, allowing you to read, write, and update data. This makes it possible to implement automation processes that enhance operational efficiency.

What is StableNet, and how does it integrate with FNT Command?

Stablenet is an end-to-end network management software that combines network monitoring, fault analysis, and configuration management.

The Adaptive Interface Package (AIP) Infosim StableNet Base Adapter automatically synchronizes hardware data from StableNet with FNT Command via the FNT ReconEngine. It enables the automated import and reconciliation of chassis, modules, and ports according to the Functional Scope Description (FSD). A cyclical network scan detects changes to minimize discrepancies between real and documented infrastructure.

What data can I query with the Query Editor?

The FNT Command Query Editor allows customized database queries and reports for analyzing the entire infrastructure. Flexible query options optimize data evaluation, while reports are clearly structured. Queries can be shared or executed automatically.

What are service assets, and how are they documented?

Service assets include all resources required for IT service delivery, encompassing physical, virtual, and organizational components. FNT Command documents service assets through:

  • Detailed asset management: Each asset is recorded with technical specifications, location data, and responsibilities.
  • Relationship management: Displays dependencies between assets and services to understand the impact of changes or failures.
  • Lifecycle management: Tracks the entire lifecycle of IT resources—from acquisition to decommissioning.
