Operators of fixed and cellular networks must ensure their fiber-optic networks in the transport and mobile fronthaul and backhaul arena, FTTx infrastructures in access networks, and HFC networks can keep pace with current and future growth rates in traffic volume. They are therefore laying more fiber, connecting more 4G and 5G mobile sites to fiber, and extending fiber closer to the end user by splitting up coax clusters in HFC networks.
FNT’s Cable and Outside Plant Management (OSP) makes it possible to efficiently operate complex passive network infrastructures. It gives communication service providers and network operators full transparency across the network to document, plan and manage any inside and outside plant cable network infrastructure. From a service assurance perspective this is important because it’s the best defense against service interruption, which can bring large technical environments to a standstill. From a planning perspective, it’s important to base changes and rollouts on accurate as-built documentation. It’s equally important for all changes to be reflected in a centralized management system. In the continuous cycle of network maintenance, and any wrong information can have ripple effects felt throughout the entire infrastructure.
FNT’s solution addresses all areas. Outside plant cable, conduits, ducts, micro-duct bundles, trenches, manholes and splice closures are included. So are all types of inside plant cable and passive network infrastructure and all types of fiber, copper and coax cable technologies and topologies.
When the FNT Cable and Outside Plant Management and FNT Telco Active Inventory solutions are used together, an operator can manage the complete collection of network and service resources of an active telco transport network. All the hierarchically structured services and paths in the FNT Telco Active Inventory solution can be assigned to the appropriate underlying resources in the FNT Cable and Outside Plant Management solution.
Work orders are automatically created based on planned tasks that can be distributed automatically via workflow tools for execution in the field. When the work is completed, the status of the planned assets is changed, and the network infrastructure documentation is updated automatically. This approach of automatically updating documentation as part of the planning process ensures that infrastructure documentation is always current.
It seamlessly works across all devices and cables, in both actual and planning views. Cables and routes can be visualized via schematic network representations, as well as via geo-referenced representation based on integrated GIS capability. This GIS functionality enables users to create a fully integrated geo-referenced visualization of the Cable and Outside Plant infrastructure on corresponding maps. The operator can seamlessly navigate between the GIS maps and the specific graphical applications to manage the cables, ducts, splice closures and cassettes, patch panels and other infrastructure in detail.
